No. 7 North Lake Knocks Off Navarro

CORSICANA, Texas – Dallas College North Lake's National Junior College Athletic Association Division III No. 7-ranked men's basketball team beat Navarro College, 71-61, on the road Tuesday night.

The Blazers (2-1) will host East Texas Baptist University Junior Varsity 6 p.m. Wednesday in the home opener.

It was the first loss of the season for Navarro, an NJCAA Division I school, which had scored over 100 points in its first two games. The Blazers held the Bulldogs 41 points under their season average, allowing only Ronnie Harrison to reach double figures.

North Lake sophomore forward Ring Deng finished with a game-high 17 points, going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Sophomore guard/forward Jakob Zenon had 16 points, and sophomore transfer guard Bryson Smith scored 15 points, while canning three triples. He was 4-for-4 from the free throw stripe.

Harrison had 13 points for Navarro, which was held to 23 points in the second half after opening up a 38-27 advantage at the break. Deng scored 11 of his 17 in the second half, while Smith had all but five of his 15 after the intermission.

North Lake made 18 of 22 free throws, and hit nine three-pointers. Navarro was 13 of 16 from the line, but managed just three triples.

It was the Blazers' third game away from home to begin the season.
