North Lake Holds Off Brookhaven, 77-65

Darion Jones had 14 points in Dallas College North Lake's win over Dallas College Brookhaven Wednesday.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas College North Lake men's basketball team rattled off its 11th consecutive win, beating Dallas College Brookhaven, 77-65, Wednesday night.

The Blazers, ranked No. 2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III, built a 20-point lead with under 10 minutes to play before Brookhaven whittled it down to 10. North Lake held off the Bears, who were coming off a win over then-No. 4 Dallas College Richland Saturday.

North Lake (15-6, 2-0 Dallas Athletic Conference) had four players in double figures, paced by Brandon Lawrence's 20 points. Darion Jones scored 14, Jakob Zenon had 13, and Da'Ryan Williams 10, eight of which came in the second half. Ryan Pondant finished with nine points, and DeKyre Fuller had eight.

The Blazers led 41-29 at halftime. Brookhaven (6-12, 1-1) matched North Lake with 36 points in the second half. The Bears shot 25 of 54, but went 4-for-20 from three-point range.

Brookhaven's Ryan Nurenberg came off the bench to score 21 points on 9 of 13 shooting. Curtis Trey Moffett had 15 points, four rebounds and two steals. Jackson Lino scored 12 points, and grabbed six boards. Jesse Klein pulled down eight of the Bears' 30 rebounds.

North Lake will play at Richland 1 p.m. Saturday. Brookhaven hosts Dallas College Eastfield 1 p.m. Saturday.
