Blazers Meet North Arkansas in District Tournament
Fifth-seeded Dallas College North Lake's baseball team will meet fourth-seeded North Arkansas College 1 p.m. Wednesday in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District Tournament at Dallas College Eastfield.
The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the double-elimination round Thursday. The championship game is set for noon Saturday, with an if-necessary game to follow. The tournament schedule may be altered due to weather conditions.
This marks the second straight year the Blazers (21-30) will play the Pioneers (36-12) in the district tournament. Last year, North Lake fell to North Arkansas, 8-5, in an elimination game.
The Blazers are batting .281 as a team, and have a 6.16 team earned run average. Sophomore Garrett Gregory is batting .399 with eight doubles, one triple, 24 runs batted in and 10 stolen bases this season. Sophomore Danny Berenthy is hitting .377 with four doubles, 33 RBI and 11 stolen bases. Sophomore Carlos Pirela is hitting .349 with four home runs, 11 doubles, one triple, 31 RBI and six stolen bases. Sophomore Tyler Yancey is hitting .329 with nine doubles, three triples, one homer, 16 RBI and 13 stolen bases.
Hunter Greenwell is 5-5 with a 4.20 earned run average and 56 strikeouts in 15 appearances this season. Gabby Aragon has a 3.55 ERA, two saves and 43 strikeouts in 15 appearances. Noe Saracay has two saves and 32 strikeouts in 40.1 innings.
North Arkansas is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division III rankings.
