Baseball Sweeps Series from Mountain View

DALLAS – Dallas College North Lake's baseball team swept a three-game series from Dallas College Mountain View, winning Sunday's finale, 17-7, in seven innings.

It was North Lake's second Dallas Athletic Conference sweep of the season, and the first since winning all three games of the first series with Dallas College Brookhaven to open March.

The Blazers (21-27, 12-15 DAC) scored the game's first seven runs before the Lions (18-30, 6-21) answered with five of their own in the bottom of the third. North Lake pushed four runs across in the the top of the fifth before Mountain View picked up a run in each of its next two at-bats to pull within 11-7. But the Blazers put the game away in the seventh, scoring six more times, and reliever Cameron Chelakis kept the Lions off the board to secure the run-rule victory.

It was North Lake's third run-rule win in the series.

Carlos Pirela homered and doubled, and drove in four runs, while going 3-for-5. It was his third home run this year. Danny Berenthy went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI. Garrett Gregory was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a stolen base. Carter Mach had two hits, including a double, and an RBI in five plate appearances. Blake Butler went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Jack Davis doubled home two runs. Jake Williams had two hits and a walk. Tyler Yancey was 1-for-3 with a double, a stolen base and two walks.

Mountain View's Anthony Winters was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBI. Quincy McGraw had a double and a stolen base.

North Lake's Austin Diaz pitched two innings in relief, allowing a run, a hit and two walks, and struck out two in the win. Chelakis allowed a run, two hits, two walks, and had two strikeouts.

The Blazers, who have won four in a row, meet No. 3 nationally-ranked Dallas College Eastfield (39-11, 23-4) in the final regular season series beginning noon Wednesday in Mesquite. North Lake will host the Harvester Bees, which won the DAC regular season title, Friday and Saturday at noon.
