North Lake Rallies to Beat Brookhaven

IRVING, Texas – Michael Riberich had a walk-off RBI infield single in the bottom of the ninth, lifting Dallas College North Lake to a 6-5 comeback victory over Dallas College Brookhaven Wednesday.

The Blazers trailed 5-2 entering the bottom half of the ninth, but rallied for four runs on five hits, two walks and a passed ball to pull out the win.

It was the fifth one-run victory of the season for the Blazers, who improved to 17-21 overall, 9-10 in the Dallas Athletic Conference. North Lake is 11-11 at home this season.

Game 2 in the three-game series shifts to Brookhaven 12 p.m. Friday, and Game 3 is noon Saturday.

Luke Batey's run-scoring double to right in the top of the ninth gave the Bears a 5-2 lead. Brookhaven (8-31, 2-17 DAC) scored the game's first two runs, and went up 4-1 in the eighth.

North Lake's Alex Murphy opened the ninth with a single to left. Tyler Yancey had a one-out infield single before Garrett Gregory's single to center loaded the bases. Murphy scored on a passed ball, and Danny Berenthy tied the game with a two-run single up the middle. With two outs, Jake Williams drew a walk to load the bases. That set the stage for Riberich.

Murphy went 3-for-4. His three hits are a season high. Gregory and Berenthy each had two of North Lake's 12 hits. Diego Canuelas was 2-for-4 for the Bears.

Logan Lathrop got the win on the mound after allowing three runs, one earned, three hits and no walks in two innings of relief. Brookhaven starter Jacob Leskovsky went eight innings, allowing seven hits, two runs, one earned and a walk in the no decision.
