Blazers Make it a Good Friday

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake's baseball team salvaged the final game of a three-game Dallas Athletic Conference series with Dallas College Cedar Valley, winning 10-4 Friday at home.

The Blazers (16-21, 8-10 DAC) matched a season high with 17 hits, and scored 10 runs for the eighth time this season. North Lake snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Suns (25-12, 11-7). 

For the second straight series finale, North Lake pitcher Jake Nicholson (5-2) went seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed five hits, four runs, none earned, three walks, and had four strikeouts. Jackson Jones worked the final two innings, giving up just two hits, while striking out three to preserve the win.

North Lake's Danny Berenthy went a season-best 4-for-4 with an RBI. Carter Mach was 3-for-4 with a double, and scored three runs. Tyler Yancey had three hits, and drove in a run in five plate appearances. Garrett Gregory was 2-for-5 with three RBI. Alex Murphy was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI. Jake Williams was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI.

Cedar Valley's Elian Gonzales had two hits and an RBI. Cooper Brewer went 2-for-4. Jayden Ramos had a hit, and drove in a pair.

Murphy doubled to center with one out in the second to give the Blazers a 2-1 lead. Yancey's single to the left side scored Murphy to make it 3-1. Gregory's RBI groundout extended the Blazers' lead to three runs. Berenthy singled home Yancey, sending North Lake into the third leading 5-1.

The Blazers scored four more in the sixth to bump the lead to 9-3. Williams tripled in a run. Murphy singled to center to bring home another run. Gregory's liner to right scored Murphy and Yancey. Both teams picked up a run in the seventh before North Lake made the call to Jones in the bullpen to close the door.

It was the third straight game Jones pitched two innings in relief in a North Lake victory. The Blazers have won four straight in games he's come on in relief.

North Lake will host Dallas College Brookhaven 12 p.m. Wednesday to open a three-game series.
