Blazers Beat Lions, 9-6, in Series Finale
IRVING – Dallas College North Lake's baseball team beat Dallas College Mountain View, 9-6, Sunday in the final game of a three-game Dallas Athletic Conference series.
North Lake (14-17, 6-6 DAC) won the series, 2-1. Mountain View (15-14, 4-8) won the second game, 6-2, Saturday.
The Blazers took a 5-0 lead after four innings before the Lions tied the game in the top of the sixth after scoring four runs. North Lake responded with four runs of its own in the seventh. Mountain View picked up a run in the eighth to make it a three-run game, but that was as close as it got.
Tyler Yancey went 3-for-5, and drove in three runs. Garrett Gregory was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in and a stolen base. Danny Berenthy had a hit and an RBI. Carter Mach was 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Jackson Earle and Jake Williams both had a hit and scored twice. Earle drew three free passes, while Williams walked twice. Noah Angus went 1-for-4, and scored a run. Ethan Revilla had a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice RBI.
Romen Filla got the win in relief, pitching an inning and two thirds, allowing two hits, no runs and no walks, to go along with two strikeouts. Jackson Jones worked the last two innings, giving up two hits, a run and two walks, while striking out four in the save. Starter Jake Nicholson went the first five innings, allowing four hits, an unearned run and five walks, and struck out four.
Gregory singled to left-center with one out in the third to score Williams for the game's first run. Berenthy's sacrifice fly in the next at-bat made it 2-0. In the fourth, Angus scored after Williams reached base on an error. Revilla's fielder's choice RBI pushed the lead to 4-0. Yancey drove in Mach with a single to give the Blazers a five-run lead.
Mountain View's Cedrick Mitchell drew a two-out RBI walk in the fifth to put the Lions on the board. Anthony Winters' sacrifice fly to right scored a run in the sixth. Jafed Parilla had a two-run double, and Mitchell doubled home a run to tie it.
Yancey's two-out, two-run single to right scored Earle and Mach as the Blazers jumped back up, 7-5. One batter later, Gregory singled home two more runs to extend the lead to four. Mountain View's Josh Cortez doubled to right to drive in Adrian Cindo to make it a three-run game, before North Lake right fielder Carlos Pirela threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning.
Jones struck out two batters, and got a fly out to end the game.
North Lake will host Dallas College Eastfield, the No. 1-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, 12 p.m. Wednesday.
