Series Sweep: North Lake Blazes Trail by Brookhaven

IRVING, Texas – Call it a Sunday Sweep.

Dallas College North Lake's baseball team moved within a game of .500 after sweeping Dallas College Brookhaven in a three-game series, which culminated with Sunday's 10-6 victory.

It was the Blazers' fifth straight win, and the victory moved them into a three-way tie for second place in the Dallas Athletic Conference with Dallas College Richland and Dallas College Cedar Valley. North Lake (10-11, 4-2 DAC) will host Richland (12-12, 4-2) to begin a three-game series 12 p.m. Wednesday.

North Lake won the bookend games in the series with the Bears by 10-6 scores. Sunday's win cemented the sweep.

Blazers starter Jake Nicholson (3-1) allowed two runs on five hits and four walks, while striking out four in five innings. Gabby Aragon picked up the save, allowing two hits and no runs over the final 2.2 innings.

It was Aragon's second straight save in as many conference series finale appearances. He had a four-inning save in the Blazers' 11-6 win over Cedar Valley a week earlier.

North Lake scored four runs in the third to take a 5-1 lead. Noah Angus' three-run double to left gave the Blazers the four-run cushion. The Bears (2-19, 0-6) got one back in their next at-bat when Alex Rangel singled in a run to make it a three-run game. North Lake responded with two runs in the bottom half of the inning when Tyler Yancey ripped a line drive to left to bring home Jackson Earle before Ethan Revilla stole home. That made it 7-2.

Brookhaven, marred in a 10-game losing skid, scored four runs in the top of the seventh to cut the deficit to a run. Hunter Pope singled to right to drive in a run. Damien Garza's RBI groundout brought home another, and the Bears scored on a hit batsman with the sacks loaded and a wild pitch.

With North Lake nursing the 7-6 lead in the eighth, Revilla had an RBI single to left. Yancey singled to right, and Revilla scored on a throwing error. With two outs, Danny Berenthy drove a ball up the middle to score Yancey, extending the lead to four.

Yancey was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Carter Mach went 2-for-4 with a double. Earle was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and a sacrifice. Revilla went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and an RBI. Berenthy was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Carlos Pirela had a hit, and drove in a run.

Brookhaven's Balin Valentine was 4-for-4 with a double, a stolen base and a walk.

North Lake's five-game win streak is its longest of the season.
