Baseball Sweeps Pair at Dallas Christian

Dallas College North Lake pitcher Jake Nicholson picked up a win in Game 1 of the Blazers' doubleheader sweep at Dallas Christian College.

Dallas College North Lake's baseball team swept a doubleheader at Dallas Christian College Monday, winning 17-1 and 15-2.

The Blazers, who received votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III preseason rankings, picked up their first twin bill sweep of the season. North Lake, which improved to 3-6, has won three of its past four.

In the opener, North Lake starter Jake Nicholson (1-0) worked three innings, allowing two hits, an unearned run and a walk, while striking out three batters to collect his first win of the season. Jackson Jones pitched an inning of shutout relief, allowing a hit and no walks, and recording two strikeouts. Nicholas Arriola worked the final inning, allowing a hit, no runs and no walks.

The Blazers jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning before the Crusaders picked up one in the second to make it, 3-1. But North Lake tacked on six runs in the third and four more in each of the fourth and fifth innings to run-rule Dallas Christian.

The Blazers outhit the Crusaders, 16-4.

North Lake's Carlos Pirela was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI. Robert Farr had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run. Jack Davis went 2-for-3 with a homer, a walk and two RBI. Jeremy Kennard homered, doubled and drove in four runs in his three plate appearances. Ethan Revilla was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Noah Hack was 2-for-2, and had an RBI. Eric DeAnda had a hit, and drove in two runs. Carter Mach, Tyler Yancey and Danny Berenthy each had a hit. Berenthy and Revilla also recorded a stolen base.

In the second game, the Blazers raced out to a 9-0 lead through two-and-a-half innings before the Crusaders scored twice in the bottom half of the third. North Lake extended the lead to 13-2 in the fifth, and added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Garrett Gregory was 4-for-5 with two doubles, six RBI and three stolen bases. Mach went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a stolen base. Bladen Biner was 2-for-2 with a home run, four RBI and a stolen base. Michael Riberich collected two hits, drove in two runs, and had a stolen base in four at-bats. Noah Angus was 2-for-4 with a double. Jake Williams was 2-for-3 with three stolen bases. Alex Murphy doubled, and Jackson Earle walked, and had a stolen base.

The Blazers pounded 17 hits.

North Lake starter Hunter Greenwell (2-0) pitched two innings, allowing a hit, a walk and no runs, while fanning three in the win. Noe Saracy tossed two shutout innings, giving up just a hit, and struck out two. Logan Lathrop worked a spotless sixth inning, and had one strikeout. Michael Shepa closed the game with a perfect seventh.

The Blazers will host State Fair Community College 2 p.m. Friday to begin a six-game homestand. They will meet State Fair at 9:30 a.m. and Cisco College at noon Saturday. They wrap up the weekend at noon Sunday with State Fair, and host Paris Junior College at 12 p.m. Monday.
