Smith Named NJCAA DIII Defensive Player of Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College North Lake's Gabi Smith was chosen as the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

A 6-foot-1 freshman middle blocker from Cleveland, Texas, Smith had 27 blocks in six matches last week, putting up a season-high 11 in a four-set win over College of DuPage, which was receiving votes in the NJCAA Division III rankings, at the Blinn College Invitational. She had six blocks in a sweep of Dallas Christian College and four in a four-set win over Jefferson College.

Smith also had 32 kills, nine digs and two aces as the Blazers went 4-2 last week.

North Lake (8-12, 0-1 Dallas Athletic Conference) plays at Dallas College Mountain View (5-15, 0-1) Thursday at 6 p.m. The Blazers meet Coffeyville Community College (6-12) and Seminole State College (8-12) in Seminole, Oklahoma Saturday.
