IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake's Gabi Smith was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

It is the second straight week she's claimed the honor.

A 6-foot-1 freshman middle blocker from Cleveland, Texas, Smith had 27 blocks, nine digs, two aces and 32 kills as North Lake went 4-2 last week. The Blazers went 3-2 at the Blinn College Invitational. Smith had 11 blocks, including one solo, and five kills in a four-set win over College of DuPage, which, along with North Lake, was receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings. It was the second time the Blazers beat DuPage this season.

Smith finished with four blocks, one a solo, seven kills with no errors for a .500 attack percentage and an ace in a four-set win over NJCAA Division I Jefferson College. She had six blocks, including three solos, in a sweep of Dallas Christian College.

North Lake (8-11) will host No. 1 Dallas College Eastfield (15-0) in the first conference match this season 6 p.m. Monday.
