Smith Chosen as DAC Defensive Player of Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake's Gabi Smith was selected as the Dallas Athletic Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week.

A 6-foot-2 freshman middle blocker from Cleveland, Texas, Smith had 10 blocks, 10 digs, 19 kills, three aces, and hit .269 in three matches against National Junior College Athletic Association Division I opponents last week. She had a season-high seven blocks, including one solo, and all three of her aces in a five-set match at Hill College. Smith had seven kills, and committed just one error in 19 attacks in that match. She put down six kills in the other two matches.

Smith leads North Lake with 33 blocks, including eight solos, in 13 matches this season.

The Blazers (4-9) host Arlington Baptist University at 6 p.m. Monday, and will compete in the Blinn Invitational Thursday-Saturday.
