Vargas Named DAC Goalkeeper of Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake women's soccer's Emely Vargas was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Goalkeeper of the Week.
A sophomore keeper from Arlington, Texas, Vargas picked up a win and a tie between the posts last week at National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Cisco College and against NJCAA Division III top-ranked Dallas College Brookhaven, respectively. She made 12 saves in the two games after facing 14 shots. At Cisco, Vargas stopped five shots in the 2-1 win. Against Brookhaven in the league opener, she made seven saves in the 1-1 tie. In the win at Cisco, Vargas leaped to punch a free kick over the crossbar for a save. In the draw with Brookhaven, she stopped a penalty kick.
Vargas is 2-2-2 this season with two shutouts, a 1.83 goals against average and 26 saves in 540 minutes in goal.
North Lake (2-2-2, 0-0-1 DAC) will play at Dallas College Mountain View (0-2-0, 0-1-0) at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
