Blazers Blank Bees in Nonconference Matchup

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake women's soccer team swept Dallas College Eastfield, 2-0, Tuesday for its first win of the season.

The Blazers (1-2-0) recorded their first shutout since Sept. 24, 2021 – a 2-0 victory at Dallas College Cedar Valley. North Lake goalkeeper Emely Vargas stopped four shots to record her first shutout. She made three saves in the second half.

She made two leaping saves in the final 45 minutes to keep the Harvester Bees off the board.

Lia Santiago scored both goals for the Blazers – the first in the 42nd minute when took a pass from Megan Morales, beat the Harvester Bees defender and found the back of the net. It was her second goal of the season.

Santiago, a speedy freshman forward from Fort Worth, Texas, struck again in the 50th minute on an assist from Tricia Reyna. That gave the Blazers a two-goal cushion.

Santiago, who leads the Blazers with seven points, attempted six of North Lake's eight shots – five on goal.

North Lake will host Ranger College 5 p.m. Friday.
