North Lake eSports Hoping to Make Splash in Playoffs

Dallas College North Lake's Call of Duty Warzone Tier 1 team will make a trip to the national round of the National Junior College Athletic Association eSports playoffs this week.

The Blazers' Call of Duty 4v4 Bravo Tier 2 team will compete in the first round Tuesday.

Warzone's team of Hunter Treleaven, Nathaniel Luna and Mikaeel Ashley finished the regular season as the No. 4 seed, following a 4-3 record. In the opening round of the regional playoffs, North Lake's Warzone unit swept Southeast Community College, 3-0. Last week, the Blazers beat No. 1 seed Central Community College, 3-1, before falling to defending champion Laramie Community College, 3-1.

"We are focused on making a splash in nationals," North Lake eSports coach Brody Rush said.

North Lake's Call of Duty Bravo team of German Torres, Felix Velazquez, Manny Wilson, Jamie Woodruff, Adams Diby and Ashley will meet No. 1 seed and defending champion Catawba Red Hawks 6 p.m. Tuesday in their playoff opener. The Blazers went 4-3 in the regular season to garner the No. 4 seed.

The Blazers' COD Gunfight Tier 1 squad of Velazquez, Woodruff and Treleaven fell in the first round of regionals, 3-0, to defending champion Central Community College.

North Lake's Call of Duty 4v4 Alpha Tier 1 team of Zion Williamson, Jose Narvaez, Francisco Belmonte and Treleaven had its season end in the in-person competition at Trinity Valley Community College with a 3-0 loss in the first round of regionals. The Blazers were 5-2 in the regular season, earning the No. 3 seed.

"We will not advance to nationals, while the season comes to an end after an incredible first season in Tier 1, competing against players on scholarship," Rush said. "Extremely proud of the way they battled all season long."
