Blazers Snag Two Comeback Wins in Home Opener

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake's baseball team swept a doubleheader from Twin City Post Grad Wednesday in the home opener, 8-6 and 3-2.

The wins marked the first for first-year Blazers head coach Lance Fairchild, who was handed the keys to the program in the summer.

North Lake (2-5) rallied from a 5-3 hole in the opener, scoring five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take control. Lincoln Skinner drove a one-out liner to center for a single, scoring Diego Arebalo and Eric De Anda to tie it. Joseph Binder's RBI double to left gave the Blazers a 6-5 lead. Leo Salas' sacrifice fly to right made it 7-5. Binder scored on an error off the bat of Michael Holden to give North Lake a three-run cushion.

Twin City picked up a run in the top of the seventh, but closer Branden Kirtley retired the next two hitters to preserve the win. It was Kirtley's first save of the season.

Middle reliever Isaac Lopez went 2 1/3 innings, allowing three hits, two runs, one earned, three walks, and had two strikeouts to secure his first win.

Binder was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two walks. Skinner went 1-for-3 with a pair of RBI and a walk. Holden was 1-for-4, and drove in two runs. Brayan Navarrete and De Anda also had one hit.

North Lake outhit Twin City, 8-7.

Twin City's Ashton Munie was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a stolen base. Zane Dees went 1-for-3, and drove in a pair. Draven Marlow was 1-for-3 with a double. Dex Ebarla had a hit in four at-bats. Braedon Sizemore and Tal Teague both went 1-for-3.

In the top of the seventh in the second game, Jacob Binder laid down a bunt along the third base line, allowing Skinner to score to secure the sweep in another comeback victory.

Michael Riberich lined a single to center, scoring Navarrete to put the Blazers up 1-0 in the second. Twin City tied the game with two outs in the fifth, and then took a one-run lead in the sixth on Ivan Rios' RBI single to left. In the bottom half of the inning, North Lake designated hitter Noah Angus' single to right brought home pinch runner Robert Farr to knot the game at 2.

Navarrete collected two hits, including a double, in three plate appearances. Riberich and Angus both went 1-for-3 with an RBI. Salas went 1-for-3. Riberich, Skinner and Reece Parrott each had a stolen base.

Mason Sinner got the win in relief after allowing a run on two hits and a walk. He struck out two. Starter Jackson Powell pitched two scoreless innings, surrendering three walks and striking out a batter. Middle reliever Daniel Coreas worked three innings, allowing two hits, a run and a walk, while fanning four.

North Lake hosts Dallas-Fort Worth Post Grad in a twin bill beginning noon Friday to continue the two-week, eight-game homestand.
