Bio

Jim McCurdy was named Athletic Communications Director/Web Content Coordinator at Dallas College in July 2022. He oversees the athletic communications duties of the Dallas Athletic Conference and seven-campus Dallas College district.

In this role, he is responsible for publishing stories on Dallas College's seven-campus and Dallas College Athletics websites, representing 36 teams. He oversees Dallas Athletic Conference Players of the Week, while coordinating publishing stories on the National Junior College Athletic Association Division V site. He also promotes DAC student-athletes for NJCAA Player of Week honors and feature or human interest stories. McCurdy coordinates traditional and social media coverage for Dallas College Athletics, while promoting accomplishments and content to media outlets. He assists with website functionality for the Dallas College district's athletics departments.

Prior to his current role, McCurdy served as an athletic communications assistant for a year-and-a-half, working game day events and writing stories for four-year schools in Houston: Rice University, Texas Southern University and the University of Houston. He also assisted at Houston Christian University and the University of St. Thomas in 2018-19. From 2019-21, he was the Director of Athletic Communications & Marketing at LeTourneau University, where he oversaw all aspects of the athletic communications, social media, live stream and media promotions efforts. There, he promoted the National Player of the Year in men's basketball, and coordinated coverage for the first American Southwest Conference Tournament champion men's basketball team, which advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Additionally, he handled the marketing and sponsorship duties for one year, increasing local business partnerships and revenue for the athletic department, while navigating through COVID-19 challenges. 

From 2011-18, McCurdy was the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Barry University, an NCAA Division II school in Miami Shores, Florida. He handled the communication efforts of 10 national championship teams and two trips to the Elite Eight for the men's basketball program, while promoting 100 All-Americans, three National Player of the Year and five National Coach/Assistant Coach of the Year awards. His month-long promotional efforts landed a men's basketball player a spot in the College Slam Dunk Championships on ESPN. McCurdy promoted highlights that garnered attention on SportsCenter and ESPN sites, while also featuring a men's golfer in Sports Illustrated. He assisted in running conference and NCAA regional tournaments. McCurdy oversaw the social media efforts of BarryU's athletic department. He assisted in managing graduate assistants, student workers and part-time staff. He served as the national and South Region coordinator of the NCAA Division II men's basketball rankings, while serving on an NCAA Division II tennis rankings committee. He worked as the media workroom coordinator of the 2017 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournamen First & Second Rounds in Orlando, and was a media services representative at the NCAA Final Four in Houston in 2016. 

Prior to his time at Barry University, McCurdy, was the assistant sports information director at Texas Southern University from 2009-11, where he coordinated coverage with ESPN and local media outlets. He worked in the media services department at the 2011 Final Four in Houston. From 2007-09, McCurdy was the Sports Information Director at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix. There, he garnered national attention for a 60-year-old women's tennis player.

McCurdy also has covered sporting events for many of the leading newspapers across the country, in addition to ESPN affiliates and CBSSports.com.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and community journalism from Western Michigan University. He earned a Master of Science in sports management from American Public University. 

He has a daughter, Amantha.
