Volleyball Wins Pair in Oklahoma

SEMINOLE, Okla. – Dallas College North Lake's volleyball team won a pair of matches against National Junior College Athletic Association Division II opponents Saturday at the Seminole State College Tri-Match.

The Blazers, who are receiving votes in the NJCAA Division III rankings, beat Coffeyville Community College, 25-23, 25-21, 25-19, in the first match. They defeated host Seminole State, 14-25, 25-19, 25-14, 25-20, in the second.

North Lake (11-12) moved within one win of the .500 mark.

In the first win, the Blazers had 14 kills in the first and third sets. They hit .268 in the final set.

Gabi Smith matched her season high with 10 kills, and had a block. Shi'Miria Phillips and Natalia Gonzalez each had six kills. Phillips also had a block. Hailey Pennison had five kills, nine digs and a solo block. Hadley Klock had 26 assists and 12 digs. Katie Lloyd had a season-high seven aces and 12 digs. Alex Knowles added eight digs.

In the win over Seminole State, the Blazers hit .310 in the pivotal third set, putting down 12 kills, while committing three errors in 29 attacks.

Phillips finished with 12 kills, five blocks and a .333 hitting percentage. Natalia Gonzalez and Smith each had seven kills. Smith had seven blocks, and Gonzalez three. Klock had 28 assists and a season-high 20 digs. Knowles had a season-best five aces and 12 digs. Lloyd had 15 digs, and Abigail Gonzalez 10.

North Lake, which is 1-1 in the conference, hosts Dallas College Cedar Valley (2-13, 0-2) at 6 p.m. Monday.
