Blazers Earn 7 All-DAC Honors

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake men's basketball team earned four All-Dallas Athletic Conference first or second team honors and three special conference awards.

Shooting guard Jakob Zenon was voted DAC Most Valuable Player. Guard Bryson Smith was selected as the league Newcomer of the Year. Josh Mills was named Coach of the Year. Zenon and Smith were First Team All-DAC picks, while forward Ring Deng and guard Randy Woolf collected Second Team honors. Guard Autavius Hobbs and forward Anden Holmes received Honorable Mention recognition.

A 6-foot-4 sophomore from Fort Worth, Texas, Zenon averaged 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per game, while shooting 47.8 percent from the floor, 42.3 percent from three-point range and 87.6 percent from the free throw line. He scored a career-high 36 points, canning 10 of 17 triples in a win at Dallas College Mountain View Feb. 17. Zenon was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Player of the Week twice and the DAC Player of the Week four times.

A 6-1 sophomore from Mesquite, Texas, Smith averaged 14.2 points, 5.5 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. He shot 43.6 percent from the floor, 47.4 percent from 3-point range and 75.8 percent from the free throw line. Smith had a career-high 30 points, sinking 17 of 18 free throws in a win at Dallas College Richland Jan. 20 to open conference play. He was chosen as the DAC Player of the Week twice.

A 6-6 sophomore from Grand Prairie, Texas, Deng averaged 13 points, 5.5 rebounds and one steal, while blocking 16 shots. He shot 56.1 percent from the field, 55.6 percent from 3-point range and 79.9 percent from the free throw line. Deng had a career-high 23 points, going 6 of 10 from the floor and 8-for-11 at the line in a win at Dallas College Cedar Valley Jan. 24.

A 6-3 sophomore from Waco, Texas, Woolf averaged 10.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.4 steals. He shot 51.3 percent from the floor, 42 percent from long distance and 79.1 percent from the free throw stripe. Woolf scored a career-high 28 points, burying 6 of 10 three-point field goals at Blinn College Nov. 10.

A 5-11 freshman from Rowlett, Texas, Hobbs averaged 7.6 points and 1.7 assists per game, while shooting 43.8 percent from the floor, 36.5 percent from the 3-point arc and 80.2 percent from the free throw line. Hobbs had a season-best 18 points on 6 of 10 field goal shooting, while sinking six of seven free throws in a win over Arlington Baptist University Junior Varsity Jan. 10.

A 6-7 freshman from Haslet, Texas, Holmes averaged 7.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists. He shot 45.4 percent from the field and 82.1 percent from the free throw line. Holmes scored a season-high 20 points in a win over Dallas College Brookhaven to close the regular season.

Mills received the DAC Coach of the Year honor for the second consecutive season. A second-year head coach, he guided the Blazers to a second straight unbeaten DAC record, while going undefeated at home for the second year in a row.

North Lake (26-4) is the No. 1 seed in next week's NJCAA Division III Tournament in Herkimer, New York. The Blazers will play the winner of No. 8 seed Fulton Montgomery Community College (25-4) and No. 9 seed Sandhills Community College (24-8) in Thursday's 1 p.m. CT quarterfinals.
