Dallas College North Lake hosted an Equality in esports event Wednesday in conjunction with Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. The purpose was to create more awareness for esports within the Dallas College seven-campus landscape, and encourage more females to participate in the gaming sports.

"I'd love to see more participation from our female student population," Dallas College Executive Athletic Director Sadiaa Jones said. "A lot of people think it's just males who compete in esports, but it's not. Our female student-athletes are just as important as our male student-athletes."

Dallas College esports is in its second year of existence, and began fall season playoffs this week. Students, whether enrolled in dual credit, traditional or adult continuing education, who maintain a 2.0 grade point average while taking at least 12 credit hours, are eligible to compete in esports regardless of which campus they attend in the Dallas College district. A spring season will also be held in the 2023 Spring semester.

"We're super inclusive with all of our students," Dallas College esports shooter games coach Sky McCort said. "When you get accepted into the esports wing, you're no longer male, female, this, that, anything, you're a team member."
