Coach Mercer Reaches Career Win #250

On February 2, 2018 the North Lake College Blazers played host to Ranger College fort the first home series of the year. After falling short in game one the Blazer's followed a strong pitching performance in game two by Miami native sophomore Gabe Cox, with an offensive surge that was perhaps capped off with the rarely seen inside-the-park home run by sophomore slugger Ruber Medina. That win was the first of the year for the Blazer baseball team, but it was a little more meaningful for Blazer Head Coach Mercer.

This win was the 250th of his career. Coach Mercer only brought up this accomplishment in passing during the post-game hand shake between the Blazer coaching staff. Mercer took over as Head Coach directly after the completion of the 2005 season and by doing so he became just the fourth Head Coach in the history of the Blazer Baseball team. Corey Mercer took over the reins of the program as the youngest coach in the conference in both age an experience. He spent just two years as the assistant coach under Steve Cummings whom he played for during his time as a student-athlete here at North Lake College. Coach Mercer admits the valuable lessons he was able to learn during his early years and how that has helped turn him into one of the more successful coaches in the Metro Athletic Conference, not to mention how well his teams have fared on the National level with many of them reaching Top-10 rankings. The North Lake College athletic staff would like to congratulate him on his 250th career win and hopes we will get to see many more of his milestone wins in the not so distance future.
